Packaging and Labelling

The label on a product identifies and communicates the relevant hazards or dangers of the biocidal product to the end user, in regards to health and the environment. The label also contains other important information on the instructions for handling, use, application, storage and disposal.

Where a biocidal product classifies in accordance with the CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 the product must be labelled in line with the statutory labelling requirements.  The classification of a product can bring about certain restrictions or conditions on who and where the product can be used.

Article 69 of the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) also outlines specific labelling requirements for biocidal products.

All notified or authorised biocidal products in Ireland must contain an approval number on the product label. Notified products can be identified by the PCS number of the form “PCS 90000”. Authorised products can be identified by the IE/BPA number of the form “IE/BPA 70000”.‌
