EU Renewal of Approval Programme
Active substance first approvals have an expiry date (usually 10 years) and must be renewed at EU level. EU review programmes are established by the Commission as necessary. Application for renewal of approval for each active substance must be made by the company or companies concerned.
For each EU review programme, active substances are assigned to specific Member States to act as Rapporteur Member State (RMS) for that active substance. The review programme and RMS allocation are outlined in Commission Implementing Regulations. The process then proceeds in a similar manner to that of new active substances.
