Proposal for Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulation (COM 2022)305
A proposal for a Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulation (SUR) to replace the existing Directive (SUD) was published by the EU Commission on the 22nd June 2022.
The objective is for a more sustainable use of pesticides and aims to protect human health and the environment from the possible risks of pesticides. The proposed regulation would provide a legal basis for the European Farm to Fork Strategy reduction targets for pesticides; to reduce the overall use and risk of chemical pesticides by 50% and the use of more hazardous pesticides by 50% by 2030.
It also establishes additional requirements for the use, storage, sale and disposal of plant protection products (PPPs), pesticide application equipment (PAE), prohibits the use of PPP’s in sensitive areas, training, independent advise, awareness raising and for implementation of integrated pest management (IPM).
