Ozone Depleting Substances

Ireland has signed up to a number of international environmental agreements related to pesticides. Pesticide Registration and Controls Divisions works with other Irish government agencies to meet our national obligations in these areas.

The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer concerns the phasing out of production of substances that deplete the ozone layer.  Ozone depleting pesticides have been phased out of production.  The Montreal Protocol has been hailed as possibly the most successful international environmental agreement.  As a result of its provisions, the hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica is slowly reducing in size.
